Anna-Sophie Springer

Anna-Sophie Springer (DE) is a curator, writer, and the founding co-director of K. Verlag in Berlin. Her practice merges curatorial, editorial, and artistic commitments by stimulating uid relations among images, artifacts, and texts in order to produce new geographical, physical, and cognitive proximities—often in relation to historical archives and the book-as-exhibition. Initiated in 2011, the editorial-curatorial platform K. has realized ten projects, including the intercalations: paginated exhibitions series, co-published with the Haus der Kulturen der Welt. Previously, she was an editor at Merve Verlag and transmediale as well as Associate Editor of Publications for the 8th Berlin Biennale of Contemporary Art. She is also the co-editor of Fantasies of the Library (The MIT Press, 2016). Her previous projects as curator include the touring exhibition Ha Ha Road (UK, 2011) and the series EX LIBRIS (2013) at Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst Leipzig; Galerie Wien Lukatsch, Berlin; and Arg.org. As a co-curator of The Subjective Object, GRASSI Museum Leipzig, she also edited and published the adjacent publication (both 2012).
Springer received her M.A. in Contemporary Art Theory from Goldsmiths, University of London, and her M.A. in Curatorial Studies from the HGB, Leipzig. In 2014 she was the Craig-Kade Visiting Scholar-in-Residence at Rutgers University, USA. In addition to her ongoing transnational research initiative Reassembling the Natural (co-curated with Etienne Turpin), Sophie is currently conducting research for her Ph.D. on the financialization of nature and natural history exhibitions in times of ecological collapse at the Centre for Research Architecture at Goldsmiths, London.
