Rochelle Feinstein, Love Vibe, 1999 – 2014, as part of In Anticipation of Women’s History Month, Centre d’Art Contemporain, Geneva, 2016

Rochelle Feinstein (born in New York where she lives and works) is a painter working across varied media, while drawing upon the attitudes, attributes and conventions embedded in painting practices. Over the span of the last four decades, Feinstein has probed the relevance of the abstract painting tradition vis-à-vis a rapidly changing cultural environment. Though it takes myriad forms, her singular project always centers upon painting within culture at large.

Rochelle Feinstein’s work was exhibited nationally and internationally, notably four concurrent retrospectives (2016 – 2019) were presented, respectively titled, at these venues: In Anticipation of Women’s History Month’ Centre d’Art Contemporain, Geneva; I Made A Terrible Mistake, Lenbachhaus Stadtische, Munich; Make it Behave, Kestner Gesellschaft, Hannover; and Image of an Image, The Bronx Museum of the Arts, NYC. Recent solo exhibitions include Rainbow Room/The Year in Hate, Campoli Presti, London (2019); Fredonia!, Nina Johnson Gallery Miami (2020). Feinstein has written about art and artists, and a collection of her selected writing, Pls. Reply, was published in 2018 by Ugly Duckling Presse.

Represented in public and private collections, Rochelle Feinstein’s works have been featured numerous publications. Since 2017, she has been Emerita Professor of painting / printmaking, Yale School of Art, Yale University.
