Matthias Frey is a trained potter and ceramist and has a pedagogical education. He studied for five years at the Academy of Fine Arts in Karlsruhe and graduated with a master’s degree.
He’s exhibited in numerous group and solo exhibitions at home and abroad and his work has been purchased for public and private collections. He has also done work in public spaces.
He’s received the following prizes and art scholarships: Preis der Jahresausstellung der Kunstakademie Karlsruhe; Preis 30 junge Schweizer Plastiker Seedamm Pfäffikon/SZ; Kunststipendium der Kunststiftung Baden-Württemberg Stuttgart; Basler Künstler-Stipendium; Förderpreis der Alexander Clavel Stiftung Riehen; Kulturpreis der Gemeinde Riehen; studio scholarships (Atelier Mondial) in Montreal and Edinburgh.
