Yornel Martínez Elias (born in Manzanilla, Cuba; lives and works in Havana) works with language and image with an interdisciplinary and collaborative approach. Following his studies in Painting and Drawing at the Academia de Arte Plásticas José J. Tejada (Santiago de Cuba), Martínez received a Fine Arts Faculty degree at Instituto Superior de Arte ISA (Havana) in 2007. He has exhibited widely in Cuba and abroad, including most recently in: 2017 solo Statement, El Apartamento arte contemporáneo (Havana); 2016 solo Mi mano derecha no sabe lo que escribe mi mano izquierda (My Right Hand Doesn’t Know What My Left Hand Writes), Biblioteca Nacional José Martí (Havana), group Roots of Influence, PAMM/Perez Art Museum Miami, group Rainbow Caravan, Aichi Triennale (Nagoya), group Transhumance, Beyond Cuban Horizons, CAB Art Center (Brussels); 2015 solo Intervención en la librería, Librería Fayad Jamís, XII Bienal de La Habana (Havana) and contributions to several satellite events during the XII Bienal de La Habana.
