Maren Mayer-Schwieger studied German literature and journalism in Karlsruhe as well as cultural and media studies at the Bauhaus-University in Weimar. From 2011 to 2015 she was a fellow at the interdisciplinary Evonik Graduate School «Reconsidering Industry» at the Ruhr-University Bochum. She is currently working on her dissertation, On Beetles and Stones. Towards a Minor Ecology, exploring the history and practices of ecological knowledge. Furthermore, she is doing research on sensor technologies and environmental aesthetics. Alongside her academic work she has been involved in projects at the intersection of art, research and intervention, such as the SelfSightSeeingCompany and the Palais des Beaux Arts, a project for site-specific media-art. Maren Mayer-Schwieger has taught at universities (of the arts) in Austria, Switzerland and Germany, with a focus on seminars and workshops which attempt to conceive of and discuss alternative forms of life.
