Mathilde Rosier

Lecturer master

Plenum, artistic mentoring, seminar

Mathilde Rosier studied Fine Arts (Master) at the École nationale superieure des beaux-arts de Paris and the Rijksakademie, Amsterdam, and Economics (Master) at Dauphine University Paris.

«When it works, painting, like music, interrupts the incessant functioning of language in the ever-excited mind. It creates a moment of silence. Like a landscape after a long walk. It makes us forget our history and our face. It's about a kind of bliss that takes a leap and gathers something deep inside.» We can only understand what we see when we renounce the urge to interpret it. This attitude is linked to the traditions of Japanese haiku and Zen kōan. In Rosier's work, simplicity and brevity provide depth and perfection. In this sense, interpretation is seen as a descriptive cage that violates the intention to suspend language. Mathilde Rosier was born in Paris and currently lives in Burgundy, France.

She has had solo exhibitions and performances at Camden Arts Center London, Museum Abteiberg Mönchengladbach, Serpentine Gallery London, Kunstverein Hannover and Musée du Jeu de Paume Paris. In recent years she has participated in exhibitions at Castello di Rivoli, Turin, Galleria de Arte Moderno, Milan, Kunsthaus, Graz, Staatsgalerie Stuttgart, Kunsthalle Baden-Baden.
