IN RESPONSE is a living, open, process-based installation. Placing sound, painting, and attention as its central coordinates, it is inspired by experimental composer Pauline Oliveros’ practice of Deep Listening, and her invitation for us to listen to every possible sound—internal, external, remembered, and imagined—with equal attention and openness. Pursuing Oliveros’ call, IN RESPONSE transforms an exhibition space into a resonant body. The installation comprises audio recordings interwoven with live transmissions of sounds from other places, creating experiences of embodied and disembodied perception in an evolving soundscape.

IN RESPONSE relies on collaboration: members of the DOCK community and visitors are invited to join the project at every stage, accumulating moments of shared listening, improvisation and experimentation. The installation will be activated through live listening sessions, made with audience collaboration and participation. Visitors are invited to contribute with their voices and sounds, ambient noises are recorded and live video with automatic screenshots will archive the events. These elements loop and layer upon one another, leaving traces that continuously alter the exhibition.
