Philipp Gasser

Philipp Gasser studied audiovisual design (video specialist class, diploma) at the School of Design in Basel under René Pulfer. He has been a member of the Art Commission, Basel-Landschaft since 2019.

A recurring theme in Philipp Gasser’s work is the reflection on the place of subject and object as well as their spatial interplay. In recent works, this place becomes environment and landscape, disturbed and digitally altered. Another of the latest works uses augmented reality technologies to merge the real space captured by the iPhone camera with a pre-produced interactive character animation. The result is a video that shows, for example, a salmon swimming around Münsterplatz or a man trying to enter Kunsthalle Basel as a red poodle in times of Corona.

Gasser has received studio scholarships from iaab (now Atelier Mondial) in Montréal (1999) and South Africa (2007). Work contribution Kunstkredit Basel-Stadt (2001). Sitemapping Prize for Media Projects (Federal Office of Culture, 2005). Exhibitions at Kunstraum Baden (2005), Kunsthaus Baselland (2011); Schaulager Satellite, ART 43 (2012); FIFA Montreal (2014); Kunstmuseum Bern @ PROGR (2015), Galerie Kabinet T, Zlín (2017) and Kunstmuseum Thun, Thun-Panorama (2020), among others.
