Working mostly with painting, Leah Nehmert (born in Geneva, lives and works in Basel) studies color and its vibration when approached through different perspectives including spirituality, energy fluxes, and movement. Such movement can typically start with her body working on a canvas and get completed by the viewer’s own while experiencing the painting. Within a visual world made of eggs, seeds and cells, Leah Nehmert chooses images and subjects carrying the potential of growth and transformation. Together with Laurie Mlodzik and Mariana Murcia, she is also a member of fffff, an artists collective focusing on fermentation processes in order to explore the connections that make life possible at every scale. This practice also illustrates Nehmert’s interest in the notion of contamination; or how her studio practice and daily life are indivisible and inevitably influence each other. The work of Leah Nehmert was included in group exhibitions internationally, including at Kunsthaus Baselland; The Ocean Space, Venice; Musée de l’Elysée, Lausanne. In 2021 she had her first solo exhibition at Gallery Ann Mazzotti, Basel.
