nightingale is a painter and music producer, living and working in Basel. In her practice she mainly explores the relationships between different organisms, both human and non-human. She is often fascinated by her immediate environment. It is a great concern of hers to advocate for her local ecology and its preservation. She seeks to not only deconstruct common notions regarding the concept of nature and its imposed boundaries, both physical and psychological, but hopefully to create a deeper understanding of our interspecific connections and the potential to develop new alliances and ways of living with and alongside each other.

In this Art Taaalkssss, nightingale will share her two main loves, which are also her two main art practices: painting animals and the production of experimental, electronic music. Departing from her most recent paintings, she will reflect on how she ended up encountering and painting the animals that are featured in her work. She will also talk about the process of how she produces music: where she sources her samples, how this relates (or not) to her painting practice and why it is important for her to keep both activities separate. She will also demonstrate how she works with the program Ableton Live using material from her own sound archive.
