Sarah Ancelle Schönfeld, Tout Doux: Gong Bath, 2023, performance, jevouspropose, Zurich

Based on the assumption that our western liberal understanding of the world is not sufficient to cope with the ever-increasing global mess, Sarah Ancelle Schönfeld (born, lives and works in Berlin) continuously designs various mysterious laboratories, treatments and environments, in which solutions, healing and meaning are attempted to be generated anew with diverse interdisciplinary methods.

For Art Taaalkssss, Sarah Ancelle Schönfeld proposes to consider the human body as a matrix to be in the world, addressing ideas of healing, more-than-human connection and ecstasy through the lens of her work. She discusses aspects of folk wisdom and witchcraft as a political tool able to regain independent knowledge and power against capitalist power structures. Her labs materialize through installations, performances, sculptures, instruments, photographs, and collages. She incorporates approaches from various fields into her practice, including science, religion, mythology, magic, and technology. She investigates different forms of knowledge and truth production that shape, control, and reproduce human perceptions of self and reality in our world.

Sarah Ancelle Schönfeld’s work has been shown in solo and group exhibitions including HKW, Berlin; Belo Campo, Lisbon; Berghain, Berlin; Staatliche Kunsthalle Baden-Baden; MAK Wien/ Vienna Biennale; Staatliche Museen zu Berlin; Kunstverein Wolfsburg; Hamburger Kunsthalle, and Berlinische Galerie. She has been a resident at Villa Aurora Los Angeles, and received the FOAM Talents Award of the Foto-Museum Amsterdam.
